As part of our work to advance biofuel technologies, we are deeply involved in cutting-edge research and early stage commercialization of new technologies. The next-generation biofuels will have to provide solutions for what is one of the greatest challenges we are facing: how to replace dwindling supplies of fossil fuels and at the same time provide food for a still rapidly growing global population. Despite our small size, Organic Fuels is not sitting on the sidelines waiting for the global majors to solve these problems.
Biodiesel production is deceptively simple, but can in fact be quite challenging when the need arises to produce high quality fuels from low quality non-food feedstocks. Organic Fuels has developed its own proprietary technology for biodiesel production, and we operate a pilot facility in our own lab to continue to develop and optimize our process. We work continuously with our customers to ensure that we meet their requirements at a competitive price, and have statistical quality assurance programs in place that far exceed the requirements of BQ9000.
Sustainability is at the very core of our business. We always consider short-term and long-term environmental impacts of our product’s manufacture and consumption. We have to know that our feedstocks are being produced in a manner consistent with sustainable agriculture. We have to know that any emissions — in production or consumption — are neutral to the Earth’s natural processes. We believe that the key to sustainability lies in the efficiency of the processes used to produce renewable fuels: ultimately, in a world where fossil fuels are a thing of the past, all food and fuel will have to be co-produced from the limited amount of arable land and water that the world has to offer, while still leaving space for biodiversity.
All larger projects are the results of teamwork, of people and companies combining forces to make things happen. In all projects in our portfolio, we have teamed up with partners such as local growers of energy crops, research institutions, local governments and entrepreneurs. We welcome opportunities to work with other entities in the realization of projects that further our common goal of developing renewable and sustainable resources.
